Dangerous English 2000! also contains many terms your newcomers will hear in the street, locker room, late-night TV, and R-rated movies. Euphemisms, slang, children's words, colorful and off-color idioms for sex and bathroom terms are explained through pictures, easy English, and sample sentences. Each term is labeled with its level of usage, so students can distinguish vulgar terms from the sociably acceptable words that they may use in "polite company." Readers will be warned about pronunciation embarrassments, sexual harassment, non-verbal no-no's, racial slurs, politically incorrect terms, and common words with double meanings. They'll learn the historical events and cultural influences that cause language to become taboo. Intermediate levels and up. NOTE: Dangerous English 2000! is explicit. The coast is not yet clear for frank discussions of these interesting terms in public schools by students under 18. However, it is safe to use this text with consenting adults. To be on the safe side, you can separate your students along gender lines, and have an opposite sex teacher teach the other half of your class. This will avoid complications and embarrassment. Teacher's suggestions and precautions are included.
